Cette œuvre représente le visage d’une statue grecque de discobole. Piet Rodriguez a su rendre ce visage vivant, lui insuffler le mouvement propre au monde du sport, tout en conservant un aspect brut et strict caractéristique du réalisme socialiste — mouvement artistique cher à l’Union soviétique —, afin de magnifier l’homme dans des postures à la fois académiques et héroïques.
Un beau cadeau de l’artiste à une municipalité fidèle au Parti communiste depuis la Libération.

This work depicts the face of a Greek statue of a discus thrower. Piet Rodriguez has managed to bring this face to life, infusing it with the dynamic movement inherent to the world of sport, while maintaining a raw and strict aspect characteristic of socialist realism — an artistic movement dear to the Soviet Union — in order to glorify man in postures that are both academic and heroic.
A beautiful gift from the artist to a municipality loyal to the Communist Party since the Liberation.
